Worried about the New Planning Laws for Driveways and Front Gardens? |
 |
 | Then worry not
the new laws that have taken effect only apply to laying paving, tarmac, or hard standing areas, which are non-permeable. The thinking behind the laws is due to the recent flooding over the UK. The government is concerned that the more non-permeable materials that are laid, the worse the flooding will become. This is because there will be more surface flooding, which may exceed the drainage capacity in the area when there is any heavy rain.

| However, a more economical, more attractive alternative is Gravel. This does not require planning permission if you choose to lay this on your drive, or in and around your garden. Gravel is permeable and allows the rain water to drain through easily, with no risk of flooding. The government are hoping to promote the use of permeable materials such as Gravel, and deter the use of any materials that will increase the risk of flooding. | |
